A jade shop at the Bogyoke Market Yangon.
There are many
jade shops at Bogyoke
Market there is probably no place on earth
with such a high density of jade stores and
this makes the Bogyoke Aung San Market the
best shopping center to buy jade.
This is one oft
he best Asian bazaars for precious and semi
precious stones including pearls, the whole
place has not changed much since British
colonial times, the old name was Scott
Market.
There are jade
jewelry, raw jadeite, pendants, amulets,
necklaces, earrings and more. There are low
price items and very expensive items. E.g.
it is possible to buy a bangle for $ 6,- and
at another store one for $ 3000,- they both
are genuine jade but have different
parameter, such as translucency, the color,
texture and more.
When shopping
for expensive jewelry (Myanmar is best
for buying jadeite which is the good stuff,
the not so good is nephrite) better hire an expert to
come along because you are not able to
figure out the real value and because of
that prone to be cheated.
Even if the shop
staff has no intention to "pull you over the
table" it is very difficult to look through.
There are no parameters to depend on as it
is with diamonds and other precious stones.
They have all kind of jadeite items for
sale, raw pieces, carved pieces, sculptures,
jade Buddhas in different colors such as
white, green and lavender.
There is gold
jade jewelry, loose stones and plenty of
other objects. Most jade shops are in a
separate hall at the left end of the main
hall. |
