Lacquer Art Myanmar

Lacquer art

Lacquer art is probably

the widest art form in the country, there are lacquer ware handicrafts and there are more sophisticated items which fall into art definition.

Creating lacquer items for everyday use is one thing, creating art items is an extension. The whole reminds a bit to Batik in Malaysia where the technique is used for clothing and also to create beautiful paintings which are very decorative.

Paintings of lacquer are the pattern on household items, furniture and more. Long time ago this were very valuable item only used by royalty but already around hundred years ago it went into mainstream.

Lacquer came from China and Japan and was adapted to the local Myanmar style and use.
