The wall paintings or murals in the medieval
temples of Bagan
are not in very
good conditions, considering the timeframe
its rather normal. The variety of subjects
in the wall painting and sculpture are often
the same, there are Jakata Stories, rural
scenes and most common cycle in Buddha’s
live, illustrating the eight most important
events of the last earthly life of Gautama
Buddha: the birth of the next Buddha, the
enlightenment, the first sermon, some
miracle and descend from heaven, in the
forest of Parileyaka, the taming of the
Nalagiri elephant and the Parinirvana.
On the walls of temples most common are
Jatakas
the legendary
stories, telling how Gautama Buddha lived
through 550 incarnations before he became a
Buddha. "He was the king of all, the
parrots, the elephant, the King of Benares,
Kalinga, adviser of kings,

hermits,
monks, Brahmins
and more. Each of his incarnations,
each of his previous life a Jataka
is dedicated. A few decades ago, the
decoration of the walls was
apparently was a bit better, there
is a constant renovation under way
to preserve this fine arts of
Myanmar.

paintings
is among other to show the
previous twenty eight
previous Buddha’s in various
forms. In various wall
paintings and relief of the
Pathothamya, Ananda relief,
Nagayon and some others
temples are not only shown
the eight major scenes of
Gautama Buddha life and
other Jatakas, but also a
wide range of subjects
showing of the life of
Prince Siddhartha, the next
Gautama Buddha before his
enlightenment.
