South Myanmar beaches southern Myanmar

are rather very remote in particular the places on the islands of the Andaman Sea.

Long white sandy beaches only sometimes a few fisherman are seen, coconut palms swaying in the breeze, green forests behind the beach, exotic plants, creeks, bays and hills. Some of the most idyllic beaches are at the islands. There is only one beach resort close to Kawthaung, actually its casino with a resort built and run by Thai people.

The Myeik archipelago or Mergui archipelago with sea gypsies called Salone was very busy during colonial times because many vessels coming in from India with trading goods for Thailand and beyond. The goods where loaded onto elephants carried to the then capital of Siam which was Ayutthaya and some even to China and Japan, this went also vice versa, read it here. It's thought that the Andaman Islands in the Myeik or Mergui Archipelago have been inhabited for more than 20,000 years. The first reported contacts were made more than 1,000 years ago by Chinese, Indian and Arabian travelers.

Myanmar is the ideal tropic vacation destination for beach, adventure and cultural vacation. Explore the warm emerald colored tropical waters by snorkeling or live aboard out of Phuket Thailand, with an abundance of fish and other sea creatures, its all there but rarely seen.

Stretching from the Bay of Bengal

to the south for more than 2000 kilometers to south Myanmar which is Kawthaung, formerly known as Victory Point.

At south Myanmar a bit north of Kawthaung the Thailand Myanmar border crossing is  the Isthmus of Kra, here is the shortest land distance between the Indian Ocean and Pacific. There have been several studies to construct a

Kawthaung or Victoria Point

channel through Myanmar and Thailand which would shortcut the distance from Europe to east Asia by several thousand kilometers, but it was never started, probably for political reasons.
