Myanmar Mountains
The Myanmar mountains of the north are perfect
for adventure tours and trekking in a pristine environment, sometimes
wilderness. It is a part of the Tibetan Himalayas stretching eastwards. No foreigners have been
here, except some British adventurers during
colonial times.
The
Myanmar mountains of the north
are for the people who already have
been everywhere, seen
everything and something new for a great adventure tour, exploring new
borders with controlled risk, not
ending up with some mad people like in the many other
countries when leaving the beaten tracks.
Mt. Hkakabo Razi (picture below), South East Asia's highest peak at 5,900
meters,
is located in this area of Kachin State. The
mountain was conquered in 1997 for the first
time by some Japanese and Myanmar climbers.
The closest town is Putao, the
biggest village in the area a rather quiet place,
surrounded by snow capped mountains.
The mountain ranges
have glaciers on top and snow all year long,
a pristine environment without cable cars
and mainly unpaved dirt roads, great nature
is around unfortunately Chinese
poachers and logging companies try
to destroy huge parts of this area.
There have been some talking to
built a ski resort but nothing
happen, might be better when it stays like
now.
Steep fields in the valleys around are
cultivated.
There are gardens of hill rice,
maize and millet within patches of colocasia,
mixed with cereal crops, cucumbers,
gourds and huge marrows.

In
the valleys slopes facing south to west
can be cultivated but the yield is rather poor.
There are plenty of fences around to keep deers, pigs
and others animals out. |

Himalaya Hkakabo Razi Peak. |
Pine,
hemlock and fir plus
larch are the usual trees at that elevation
and at more than around 3000m. coniferous forests
are around. There is plenty of hardwoods
such as
oak, maple, chestnut, birch, walnut plus rhododendron and others, at
regions not accessible by roads, at accessible
areas Chinese and local poachers fell all trees,
the Chinese come from over the border
and have deep packets they pay their way
through and destroy the nature because
in their own country the government
stopped them.
Similar
adventure tours at lower elevation and
somehow a better infrastructure, with rivers and waterfalls can
be experienced close to the Myanmar
Thailand border at
Umphang south of the border crossing
at
Mae Sot.

The people catch fish with fish traps, nets
and
harpoon. They hunt barking deer, monkeys
and other animals and eat snails,
frogs, lizards, snakes and
more.
Cold weather mist hangs over the
Myanmar mountains almost
the half of the year.
Beside streams and
rivulets are straw-roofed houses.
Adventure trekking
in the Myanmar Himalayas is here. |

Myanmar
people in that region are Lisu, Rawan,
Shan,
Jingphaw and Kachin.They
are growing paddy,
fruits and medical plants.
They harvest peaches,
grape fruits, oranges, ginseng and musk.
Orchids and
other exotic flora and fauna are native to this region.
