At Bagan many of them are right within the pagoda precinct of the old quarter. Actually there are probably most of the top level hotels in the country. From most its a easy walk, cycle - or coach ride to visit the monuments. The best there is the Tharabha Gate Hotel, a real oasis and excellent managed, its not the cheapest but this few dollars more you pay for the room are a good investment to your well being. This is a huge country but only little developed among other the biggest infrastructure problem is the absence of electricity in most of the country, except the big cities like Yangon and Mandalay plus Bagan. The Asia Plaza has 2 floors which are with good rooms not so bad, but maybe one day the water doesn't work, next day the elevator wont work and everyday all the emergency exits are blocked. So if anything happen, where you go? The only real assets is the location and the room rate. A good alternative on the very budget level is the  Queens Park, the rooms are very basic but everything works and this for about US$ 35,. At one part in the morning the fisherman pull their catch ashore and sort it out. You can do a day trip to watch them, the other parts are used almost exclusively for guests. There are small restaurants behind serving fresh seafood, some bars with music and a good service, there are excellent hotels and resorts around Ngapali has many to choose from, from luxury resorts to the rather basic accommodation, its all there. All is closed during monsoon times. The southern west coast has plenty of pristine island, in particular in the Andaman Sea around the Mergui Archipelago north of Phuket Thailand. The scenery easily matches other islands in the Indian Ocean such as Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar and Reunion. The construction and furniture mainly is in teak wood, giving a great valuable and tropical touch. Most  up market hotels and beach resorts have a idyllic setting amidst lush tropical gardens behind the warm tropical sea. All modern facilities are offered, like spa, sauna, Turkish bath, massage, Ayurveda, scuba and others. All beach resorts and other hotels at this cost side have excellent restaurants which offer great local cuisine plus recreational facilities.
