This is it is the
largest in southeast
Asia, 2090 km (1300 miles)
from north to south, from the
lofty mountains extending
from the Tibetan Himalayas to
the rolling tropical waters
of the Indian ocean. Breadth
wise, there are 925 km (575
miles) from the Naaf river
on the Bangladesh border, to
the
Mekong
river
that separates the country
from from Laos.
A horseshoe of
hill-offshoots from the

Climate: The country has three seasons, the cold season is from October into February with an average temperature from around 20- 24 C. Hot season is from March to May with around 30- 35 C. Monsoon season is from June to September with around 25- 30 C. Yangon receive some rain throughout the year while rain in the area between Bagan and Mandalay is very low, this is the dry area is called. Shan state with Inle Lake, plus the north and south is pleasant year round. In the south it's wet throughout the year and the far north has an Alpine climate with plenty of snow throughout the year. |
|
|
.jpg) |
Culture: Although the country is located between India and China it has it's very distinctive characteristics, but the overall appearance in the big cities such as Yangon and Mandalay is more Indian, elsewhere it is quite a native development. Probably the main cultural expression is Pagoda City of Bagan at the Irrawaddy River.
As elsewhere in Asia people have preserved the traditional family ties and reverence for Buddhism. People are known for hospitality and friendliness. |
|
.jpg) |
What to wear: Light wear is recommended, since all textile stuff is quite cheap, most come from China just buy what you need locally it might safe you overweight costs. Footwear must be removed before entering a temple.
The English started a war because of this, since they refused to take off their shoes.
In general for women, don't show to much skin it's not appropriate and will get you a sunburn very quick. |
|
.jpg) |
Visa: Tourist and business visas are valid for 28 days, transit visas are valid for 24 hours. The best is to get a visa at the Bangkok consulate, it will take a day and cost around $ 30,- (tourist visa) business visa is $ 40,-, needs 2 photos and your passport, before you enter the consulate at Pun Road, that's a small road linking Silom and Sathon Road you need to make a copy of your passport.
There is a small shop just before the embassy (when you come from the Silom side) where you can do this, they also have the application form. The cost of a tourist visa is approximately US$20; the cost of a business visa is approximately US$40. |

Culture

travel
is probably
the main
reason why
people come
to the
country.
There is

Here are some
typical tour
programs,
when making one
there is plenty to
see and experience.
Here the old orient
is still around with
all it's positive
and negative side
but time is changing
fast .
When
you travel to the
country never forget
to make a good
insurance since many
things can happen.
One of the main
sources of accidents
is that almost
everything is
somehow rotten
unless you are in
some of the newer
big hotels they are
in good condition
but when you walk
out there is a
different picture.
Most local travel
agents have no
insurance for their
clients, if you are
on a tour only you
are responsible for
yourself,

Why the name
Myanmar?
The name
was traditionally and officially used
throughout times, except
colonial times.
Means Myanmar Naing-Ngan
(Kingdom of, or Union of, ), etc.
But in speech, Bamar is a short form
term; this led to the
misunderstanding of the term
Burma, Burman and
Burmese
during the
British
period.
A
number
of names
were similarly used such
as
Rangoon,
Prome,
Pegu, Akyab,
Bagan,
Bassein,
Mergui, etc. Town names

country. In ancient
days, the country
was first known
by western travelers
(who mostly came by

The country

oriented to sea,
most foreign trade
was done via the

Flights to
Yangon
Airport |
A trip will
always start at
Yangon airport, Mandalay
is also receiving
international flight
from Chiang Mai in
Thailand. The thing
is, at all land
border crossings a
foreigner is only
allowed to stay
within city limits,
it is not possible
to exit city limits
that finally means
coming and leaving
the country is only
via the two
international
airports.
It is also not
possible to use the
road crossing to
exit the country
without a special
permission for which
a application can be
made at the Myanmar
Travel & Tour office they will
take the application
form and pass is it
to the foreign
ministry, processing
is about 2 weeks.
All this can only be
handled in the
former capital.
Flights with
tourists come
in mostly from
Bangkok
airport. There are
several flights a

flights are from
China, Japan, Korea,

are available.

The
Andaman sea
opens up a pristine part of the Indian Ocean,
touching India, Burma and Thailand with
almost no contact to any foreigners except
the Thailand Andaman Sea area. In resent
years "live aboard" diving tours are
offered out of Phuket Thailand, often a trip is started elsewhere e.g. in
Thailand.
The
natives are Salone or Moken sea
gypsies, they
never live permanently on one place. During
the rainy season they stay
temporarily on the islands where greener
landscape exists. |

To
do some
adventure
travel just
contact the
travel agent
indicated
above, they
are the

they do a
good job.
Making a
trip in the
Mergui
Archipelago
is a rather
difficult
task since
there is no
infrastructure
on any
island.
The
next
possible
accommodation
is at Myeik
and
Kawthaung,
a other way
to explore
the area is by a
live aboard
scuba diving
trip (they
have
excellent
yachts for
this) out of
Phuket or
check with a
local travel
agent at
Mergui they
can handle
this
including
supplying
guide and
kayaks it
can done
from
December to
April, the
other time
is rainy
season or
monsoon with
torrential
downpours
and
flooding.
This area is
one of the
wettest on
planet
earth,
more.
Excellent
beaches
such as
Ngapali
Beach,
Chaungtha Beach, Ngwe
Saung Beach
and other attractive
beaches along the
coast and on over 800
islands in
the
Myeik or
Mergui
Archipelago
all the way
down to
Kawthaung
or Victoria
Point, as the town was known under the
British, the southernmost town in the
country.
Hotels and
other vacation accommodations
At your trip you need a hotel, at Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan
and elsewhere are plenty of excellent hotels
and some very basic accommodations in the
remote areas, the very remote areas are not
suitable for tourism, maybe for some
adventure tours,
read more.
Many resorts
right at the waterfront are available,
several have have opened
up in recent years,
this
segment is still growing strong. Beach
hotels are available at Ngapali Beach,
Chaungtha, Ngwe Saung and other.
There are plenty accommodations
throughout to make your tours a pleasant
one.
Accommodations
range from small guesthouses to large
international style luxury hotels and
resorts. The smaller or budget hotels
are not very up to date in terms of the
hotel’s
hygienic;
be very careful with the water (don't drink
from the tap and use bottled water
to brush your teeth, do shaving
etc.)
Check who runs the hotel, if the manger
is a European you have a good chance for
vacation without problems, the pictures here will help to make
decisions. One of
the biggest problems is to reach the
hotels outside Yangon by road, since
most are in very bad
condition and are not wide enough to
have 2 vehicles pass each other without
problems. By taking an airplane
you can completely bypass this problem,
to fly to remote areas such as
Putao
in the north book your flight well in
advance the flights into Kachin State
are always full. At
Inle Lake
are several very idyllic hotels
placed on stilts into the lake such as
the
Golden Cottages, tourism
traffic is
by boat only. In Yangon and Mandalay the
situation with the hotels is different.
There are also qualified local managers
beside of Thai and Sri Lanka hotel
managers, some hotels are also managed
by Chinese and Indian people.
Credit cards are
not accepted, so take plenty of $ with you if you
travel
since finally its dollars and its cash
and that's it ! Of you travel outside
the big cities such as Yangon and
Mandalay change money first,
the
best place
to change
money are

On your
travel you will see that Burmese people are almost entirely follower
of Buddhism with the exceptions of some
respecting the
Nats plus
Muslim and Christians They are followers of
the Buddha.
You will see
everywhere signs of
Buddhism,
the monasteries, the white and golden
glinting of pagodas, dark red-robed monks,
novices and nuns with shaven heads carrying
their begging bowls.
Sometimes groups of

stay in a monastery for a couple of
day and there are plenty men who become
monks for a few days or longer.
The spiritual
and moral force of Buddhism has an
important place in the life of the people
and of course in the life of
Buddhist Monks.
On your travel
witness one of the great pagoda festivals,
with streams of pilgrims from miles around
crowd the pagodas and go shopping at the
throughway shops. Take off your shoes and
climb bare foot the steps to the shrines and
pagodas. Watching devout Buddhist kneeling
with prayerful hands before an image of the
Buddha. Its a great atmosphere hardly found
elsewhere, see all this wonderful Buddha
statues, some even made from jade.

Myanmar jade.
There is also only minimal
Chinese nephrite
left,
most "Chinese Jade is either imported legally or
smuggled

Since
rubies are getting more rare because the
supply is decreasing it becomes harder to get
any real good rubies. Actually only the bigger
stones are getting really rare there
is a abundant supply of small stones

Nightlife

If you are a single guy
traveling the country you
probably ask yourself, well
the country is real
beautiful but what are the
attractions in the night.
You must not worry there is
quite some nightlife going
on in the golden land. Its
not as crazy at
Thailand nightlife,
its less screaming

definitely something
going on.
At Yangon and other cities
are nightclubs, bars and
pubs with plenty of pretty
girls doing fashion shows,
dancing, singing and other
